Decoding The Midi Skirt

Meet my summer fashion secret...the midi skirt! Nothing quite evokes the image of the fifties like the full body midi skirt. And in case you were wondering, I tend to pull most of my style inspiration from the fifties. Style back then was so elegant and conservative. I think I was born in the wrong decade! Don't get me wrong, I love mini skirts too, but midis are more practical. You can wear them to work, to brunch with friends, and even to a wedding. I love how graceful it looks when paired with pumps and ladylike jewels.

Traditionally, the midi falls below the knee or even a few inches above the ankles. When shopping for midis, it's best to search for a style that will suit your waistline. If you have wide hips, opt for a skirt with an elastic. This will help keep you comfortable. The whole point of the midi skirt is to cinch your mid-section and emphasize your curves, all while lengthening those gorgeous gams.

How to style: pair with tight-fitting tops (crop-tops are truly the best mate for midi skirts). To edge up the look, try adding deeper colored accessories, or purchase a clutch with leather detailing. I think there is something so simple and classic about a white lacey skirt paired with leather.

Every Storm Runs Out Of Rain

I love rainy days when I can stay home and wrap up in a blanket and watch movies all day (don't we all). The reality is, we can't always snuggle up inside and hide out from the rain. I typically don't let the rain determine my outfit decision for the day, and you shouldn't either!

How to look totally flawless in the rain:
1- Wear pops of bright colors to help liven up your mood.
2-Just because the weather outside is dreary, doesn't mean your wardrobe needs to be! Pair a loose fitting skirt with a solid colored top. Finish the outfit off with a fun statement necklace.
3-To avoid frizzy hair, you will need a mixture of frizz serum, hairspray, bobby pins, hair clips...OR you can simply grab your favorite hat and forget the fuss. Your choice ;).
4-Grab a scarf before you head out the door. Oftentimes when it rains, the weather brings in a muggy-chill (gross).
5- Invest in a raincoat. This seems obvious, but unless you plan on walking around getting wet, you'll need an appropriate coat. I bought my raincoat two years ago from Zara and I love it! I can wear it in the spring, fall or summer. It's basic and very light.

Most importantly, don't forget to take on the day with a smile. After all, every storm runs out of rain.

Style In The Fast Lane

I'm excited to share a fun collaboration with Aaraa Boutique in Hoboken, NJ. See below for a mini preview of my "accessorizing on-the-go" feature. Be sure to head over to Aaraa's blog to read the full post.

PREVIEW
The busy summer months are ahead and I could not be more excited about it! If you are like me, you probably spend the majority of the warmer months bouncing around the state visiting friends, enjoying the beach, and road-tripping to low-key destinations. While traveling may be fun, packing for the trip is not. After years of quite literally living out of a suitcase, I learned the many advantages of packing versatile accessories.

If there is one rule of thumb by which all fashionistas should abide by, it's to pack...to read more, click here.

Comfy & Chic: Reebok Skyscape Shoe

"So light and comfortable, it feels like you don't have them on." When I heard about the new light weight shoes by Reebok I have to admit, a part of me was skeptical. I have very sensitive feet and have yet to find a shoe that does not irritate my skin. Well that is of course, until I met the new Skyscape shoe!

The shoes are seamless so there is no rubbing or irritation. I have been wearing them all around town, and I even wore them to work this week. They are so smooth and soft. It actually feels like you are walking around in your socks! The soles are lightly cushioned with just enough support. An added benefit? They are machine washable! Simply slip out the insoles, wash on a delicate cycle, and let them air dry.

The Skyscape shoe is available in a variety of fun colors and prints. To see more options and to shop the look, click here. Retail prices range from $65-$69 depending on the print/color.

A huge thank you to Reebok for inviting me along to celebrate the launch of the collection last Saturday in Chelsea. I also happened to bump into one of my favorite style bloggers, Tiffany Lee of Living in Heels. It was so fun trying on shoes together and shopping around for a style that would suit our personalities. I decided to go with the pink (naturally), and Tiffany opted for a fresh minty look. *Special shout out to Tiffany's friend and photographer, Jennifer, who was kind enough to take these photos for us.

If you already have a pair of the Skyscape shoes you can Instagram and Tweet at the hashtag #StyleNeverStops to show us all how you are styling your new kicks. Style never felt so good!

Dress Yourself Happy

Everyone has a unique relationship with their body. There are days when we love and embrace our flaws, and there are days when we hate them. The truth is, it's everyone's right to look and feel good. Style is a way to increase self-esteem and confidence. When you look good you will in return feel good. I've learned to take an open-arm approach to flaws and insecurities. Be accepting of your body shape. Once you stop fighting the reality of your body, you will feel beautiful. Style matters. It's the way we share our inner selves with the world. So I say this to you, accept your body and dress yourself happy

Learning to dress happy:
1- Don't buy into every trend. It's within your style "rights" to analyze each new trend that enters the market. Ask yourself, will this look right on my body? Will it make me feel confident? I realize that it's super difficult to place perspective on trends when every retailer is drilling the look into our heads, but it's important to know yourself enough to say yes or no.
2-Avoid overly-clingy clothing. No one enjoys tight clothing. It's not only uncomfortable, but it will show every fold you have. (Unless you are heading to AC or Vegas for a Bachelorette weekend, then it's ok ;). Shout out to my dearest best friend Katie Reina. Her bachelorette party is this weekend, and we have an interesting night planned for her! Please excuse our overly-clingy clothing in advance!)
3-Buy "staple" pieces. 45% of your wardrobe should be basic staple pieces. The little black dress is an instant classic and can be worn 150 different ways (literally). Investing in these key items will actually save you money in the long run. Staple pieces include solid tees, a pair of good jeans, nude heels, ballet flats, the little black dress (obvi), tailored skirts and a black blazer. In all honesty this list could go on forever, but I'll end there for now!
4- Give your wardrobe small updates. Dressing well doesn't mean you need to break the bank. You can learn to re-invent pieces already hanging in your closet. Use a scarf as a cardigan, cover-up, shawl, headband, sarong...you name it! If you are experiencing wardrobe boredom take a trip to the mall and add a fun accessory to your collection. It will instantly spice up your closet.
5- Be yourself. This is the most important step to dressing happy. Let your personality shine. The best accessory you can wear all day long? A smile!

My favorite go-to happy outfit? The little black dress of course! A classic look that will keep you comfortable and chic all day long.

Classic Spring Must-Haves

Do you want the secret to striking the right balance between sophisticated and sweet? The key is to play with over-sized prints, soft tees, ballet flats, ruffles, and flirty shapes. My inspiration for this look comes from the streets of New York. I've seen so many girls wearing white skinnies paired with a white tee. I wanted to test out the look for myself with a few personal touches...aka this fabulous over-sized printed blazer from Anthropologie (exact blazer here). I love to select one strong piece to make a statement, and what better way than animal print? I've always been attracted to flirty and feminine pieces.

Ready to see more of the spring classics I love? I'm super excited to announce that I have partnered up with Mavatar.com to bring you custom style collections each month! Mavatar is an online shopping app to help you shop smarter and save money. I will be hand selecting and creating collections on the app based off of my current style cravings. I hope you fall madly in love with some of the looks in the collections (or all of them). Shopping just got much easier- so get your wallets ready! Click below to shop my Classic Spring Must-Haves.
