#StyleStalking: Overalls With Alexandra

Outfit details: Washable Silk Overalls from Go Silk, Topshop Crop Top, Zara Leather Booties (super great alternative here),  Illia Clutch, Ray-Ban Sunglasses

I introduce to you ladies and gentlemen, the chicest New Yorker I know, Alexandra Rodrigues. Alex and I grew up together and shared the same love obsession for fashion at a very young age. It's true that we once snuck an issue of Vogue into our Business Law class to catch up on the latest catwalk trends instead of paying attention to the mid-term exam overview. Rebels? No. Just two teens dying to make their way to New York City to live amongst the most fashionable people in the world.

I always admired Alex for her ability to take low budget pieces and style them into an ultra couture-looking ensemble. Every time I see her it looks like she has stepped out of a magazine. I'm always completely shocked when she tells me a few of her pieces are from Forever21. She styles them so well, you would never know.

What I love the most about this outfit is the silk material of the overalls and chunky ankle booties. Overalls usually tend to look very boxy and stiff. The lightweight fabric helps to soften the look and the classic ankle booties perfectly finish off this laid-back combo.

So what do you think, will you experiment with overalls for fall? Hope this outfit convinced you! Click on the below Mavatar button to shop some more lightweight overall alternatives hand-selected by Alex and I.

P.S. In case you were wondering, here's some insight on the #stylestalking series: Since a young age I have been obsessing over the art of style. I enjoy watching how other men and women put their outfits together. When I see a perfectly styled outfit, I get a super excited feeling and the urge to tell that person I love them...and their outfit. It usually puts me in a really awkward situation after approaching complete strangers, but I don't mind. Which is why I am introducing my #stylestalking series. I want to share my favorite styles straight from the streets of New York (or any other city for that matter) from real women and men. A good outfit should never go unnoticed.

The Trumpet Sleeve

Photography by AnyaFoto
Looking to add a little flare to your style? One of my favorite trends for this upcoming fall season is the trumpet sleeve, or more commonly known as the bell sleeve. Talk about a serious throwback to the 1970's! What exactly is a trumpet sleeve? The trumpet sleeve is a sleeve that gets increasingly wider from the elbow to the wrist. It adds the perfect amount of drama to any blouse, tunic, sweater or dress. I personally love how this tunic features an extreme flare (similar to that of a '70s bell bottom pant leg).  The sleeves are finished off with little pom-poms. They really make the look magical. I felt so wizardly in it ;).

The trumpet sleeve works well with almost every body type. It's one of the few styles that can be extremely flattering on your arms. What throw back trends will you incorporate into your fall style? As you can tell, the '60s and 70's will be at the core of my fall wardrobe!

Likers Gonna Like: The Casual Street Outfit

Sometimes, a girl just wants to be casual for a change. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore dressing up, but when given the opportunity to dress down I take it! I was just away on vacation with my family and I lived in these black lacy shorts from Pink Slate Boutique. I wore them for a relaxed dinner on the bay (accompanied by live music and fruity cocktails), and to the beach the next day with a large chevron wrap. They really are so versatile and the subtle tribal print details adds a lot to the look.

My inspiration for this outfit comes from Blake Lively. She's been rocking the laid back bohemian style lately and I admire her passion for style. She always manages to look ultra chic, even when she's dressed down. For this look, I decided to pair a fun tank tee with simple layered necklaces. Statement necklaces are of course a go-to of mine, but sometimes all you need is a dainty necklace to add personality and drama to an outfit. This gold double chevron necklace by Accessories IN Style is simple, yet fashion forward.  A lot of my favorite looks are derived from layered necklaces and this one does the trick because there are two pendants connected to one chain!

More casual styles that I adore:
  • Plaid smock dress. Yes, a smock dress. I have two of them that help me embrace my inner boho girl.
  • Chambray shirt dress. Chambray tops will make you feel polished, but convert the style into a shirt dress and you will feel effortlessly chic.
  • Tunic dress. I love light and billowy dresses in the summertime. They add that perfect earthy feel when paired with chunky shoes and handmade jewelry.
  • The maxi skirt. Maxi skirts are a wardrobe staple piece. They are drapey and casual, but yet they still add some structure in a relaxed way.
Shop the look:
Tank: Zara
Shoes: Vince Camuto
Ooh La Lacy Shorts : Pink Slate Boutique (use code DRESSEDBYJESS for 20% off expires 8/5)
Wrap Button Down: Zara (similar here)
Clutch: gift from Italy (similar style here)
Double Chevron Necklace & Earrings: Accessories IN Style (use code JESS15 to receive 15% expires 8/5)

As a side note, after I was done shooting some pics I had to throw my hair into a side braid. The wind was unreal and no bottle of hairspray could tame this mane! There was a storm passing through so the air was also super sticky and muggy. I can't complain about the weather though, we had a great time regardless of the four hours of rain. Besides, look at this beautiful sunset it brought to us!

All American Girls Featuring Deb Shops + A Giveaway

Red, white, and chic all over. The July 4th holiday calls for easy fashion. I'm so excited to share that I've teamed up with Johnnalynn Lynch of the Atlanta based blog StushiGal Style, and Alina Dinh of the San Francisco based blog, Style by Alina, to bring you guys a fashionable "Coast to Coast" street style series. We will be sharing our personal take on trends and our first feature is highlighting our favorite looks for Independence Day from Deb Shops. Whether your weekend will consist of BBQs, fireworks, spicy cocktails (yes, red hot pepper spicy), or day trips to the beach, the Coast to Coast Style girls have got you covered! We want to make sure your looking stylish while celebrating ;). I like to dress patriotic, but not overboard. I think a hint of "USA" does the trick. Channel your inner Uncle Sam.

The two requirements for my holiday look? Comfy and classic. I reach for denim when looking to edge up my outfit. How cute are these bleached out denim shorts from Deb Shops? I love how American they look because of the cloud wash. The spots of blue all over truly draw attention. I also adore these destroyed denim shorts with flag-printed exposed pockets. Pair with an off the shoulder sweatshirt and your ready for the fireworks!

This year, after celebrating with friends, the BF and I plan to drive to the beach and watch the fireworks over the ocean from all the neighboring towns. It involves some serious walking since parking is hard to find down by the water. These American Flag inspired low top sneakers from Deb Shops are perfect for the occasion! They are not only festive and fun, but super comfy.

I urge you to be unique with your 4th of July style and have fun with it! For more inspiration, be sure to stop by Style by Alina and StushiGal Style. From stars, to stripes, to solids, we've got you covered for your Independence day outfit. Follow along the hashtag #C2CStreetStyle on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for more yankee doodle fun.
